India’s Govt Unveils Video: 10 Extraordinary Moments That Have Global Impact In 2023
The Government of India has recently unveiled a compelling video that captures ten extraordinary moments when India left an indelible mark on the global stage in 2023.

  • From groundbreaking space exploration to economic prowess, the video showcases the nation’s remarkable progress and contributions. Let’s delve into these key moments that have defined India’s journey in 2023.
  • The video includes India becoming 1st nation to reach Moon’s south pole, PM Narendra Modi-led yoga session at UN creating Guinness record, Air India sealing world’s largest aircraft deal and India becoming world’s fastest growing economy. Video also lists world’s largest office building in Surat.

Textiles Ministry Unveils ‘Paat-Mitro’ App For Jute Farmers
To provide important information about MSP and agronomy to jute farmers, the Ministry of Textiles launched “Paat-Mitro” – a mobile application, developed by The Jute Corporation of India Limited (JCI) during ‘Jute Symposium’. Smt. Rachna Shah, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles launched the application which is available in 6 languages.

  • The application can be freely downloaded from Google Play Store and all the functionalities are made available to the users free of cost. In addition to, the latest agronomic practices and Minimum Support Prices (MSP); Jute Gradation Parameters, Farmer-centric schemes like ‘Jute-ICARE’, weather forecasts, JCI’s Purchase Centers’ locations, Procurement Policies are also made available in the app.

Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh Lead in Solar Park Scheme Capacities
Two states Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh – have deployed higher capacities through the solar park scheme.

  • The Scheme for “Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects” was rolled out in December 2014 with an aggregate capacity of 20,000 MW. Further, the capacity of the Solar Park Scheme was enhanced to 40,000 MW in March 2017 to set up at least 50 Solar Parks. The timeline of the scheme is up to 2023-24.
  • The objective of this scheme is to provide land and transmission to RE developers on a plug-and-play basis. i.e, the infrastructure such as land, roads, power evacuation system water facilities are developed with all statutory clearances/approvals.


BANKING & FINANCE

ArSRLM inks MoU with SBI for banking services to SHGs
Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission has partnered with SBI to offer extensive banking services to self-help groups (SHGs) in the state, marking a strategic alliance for financial empowerment.

  • The MoU has been signed to expedite the SHG bank linkage on savings, credit, insurance and remittances for 12,000 self-help groups promoted under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) in the northeastern state.

LIC Granted Extension till 2032 to Achieve 25% Public Shareholding
Shares of the leading state-run insurer LIC surged to a new 52-week high on December 22 following a significant development.

  • The Ministry of Finance has granted a one-time exemption to Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) regarding the 25% Minimum Public Shareholding (MPS) rule. The decision allows LIC to achieve the mandated 25% MPS within 10 years of its listing, extending the deadline to May 2032.

Sakshi Malik Quits After Election Of New Wrestling Federation Chief
Acclaimed Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik, a bronze medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, declared her retirement in protest of the Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) recent leadership change.

  • The move follows allegations of sexual abuse against the ousted president, Brij Bhushan Singh, and the controversial election of his close ally, Sanjay Singh.
  • Sakshi Malik, a vocal advocate against harassment in Indian sports, led protests earlier in the year, demanding accountability for Singh’s alleged sexual misconduct towards female wrestlers. Charges filed in June accused Singh of harassing six athletes, including a minor, during his tenure as WFI chief.

President Droupadi Murmu Awards Crompton for Energy Conservation 2023
Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (CGCEL), a leading player in India’s consumer electrical industry, has been honored with the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award 2023. 

  • The recognition was bestowed by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and the Ministry of Power, represented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day on December 14.
  • This latest award adds to Crompton’s impressive track record of consistent excellence. The company has previously secured this esteemed honor across diverse categories such as fans and lights in previous editions of the National Energy Conservation Awards.

SASTRA Ramanujan Awards 2022 and 2023 Announced
In a prestigious ceremony at the SASTRA campus in Kumbakonam, the SASTRA-Ramanujan Awards for 2022 and 2023 were bestowed upon mathematicians Yunqing Tang and Ruixiang Zhang, both affiliated with the University of California in Berkeley.

  • The awards, instituted by SASTRA in 2005, honor individuals under the age of 32 who have made remarkable contributions to the field of mathematics.
  • The SASTRA-Ramanujan Awards, with a commendable cash prize of USD 10,000 and a citation, are presented annually on the birthday of the legendary Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. This year, the recipients were acknowledged for their outstanding work in mathematics, carrying on the tradition of honoring brilliance on Ramanujan’s special day.

Poet Sukrita Paul Kumar wins 2023 Tagore Literary Prize
The sixth edition of the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize was awarded to poet-critic Sukrita Paul Kumar for her book, ”Salt & Pepper: Selected Poems”.

  • An amount of USD 10,000, a Tagore statue and a certificate for contribution to literature was given to Kumar at the award ceremony.
  • This prestigious award recognizes outstanding literary work from around the globe, promoting world peace, literature, art, education, and human rights.
